Value of trade passing through the Port
Since Japan has limited resources, our industrial activities and daily
life depend on the import of raw materials and export of manufactured products,
as well as the import of daily necessities. In this foreign trade, sea-borne
transport accounts for around 99.7 % of Japan's total import/export cargo
volume (weight basis). The Port of Nagoya alone handles 216 million tons
annually, with a trade value of 16.7 trillion yen. These figures rank the
Port in the top position among Japan's five major ports (Tokyo, Yokohama,
Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe).
