Establishment of Nagoya Port Terminal Corporation
As a part of an approach to privatizing port operation, Nagoya Port Authority and Nagoya Port Terminal Public Corporation were working to incorporate the Nagoya Port Terminal Public Corporation.
Finally, on December 3rd, 2012, the Nagoya Port Terminal Corporation was officially established and operation of the International Container and Ferry Piers was started. The Nagoya Port Terminal Public Corporation was disbanded on December 31st, 2012, after its functions were taken over by the new company.

Partnership Agreement concluded with Port Authority of Thailand
On October 17th, Nagoya Port Authority and Port Authority of Thailand concluded a Partnership Agreement for Marketing Cooperation to strengthen the relationship and cooperation to promote the bilateral trade and development between both ports and regions.
The Port Authority of Thailand is the organization managing and supervising both central and regional ports (Bangkok Port, Laem Chabang Port, Chiang Sean Port, Chiang Khong Port, and Ranong Port ) Laem Chabang Port is the 4th biggest container trade partner port for Nagoya.
The port handles about 1 million units of complete automobiles annually, in addition to import, export and transit automobile shipment trade with the Port of Nagoya. The new agreement will not only support the efficient logistics for the main trading items (for example, completed automobiles, automobile parts and others) for both ports, but also enhance information exchanges, training programs and mutual mission visits to promote business relations involving private enterprises.
A signing ceremony was held at the Nagoya Port Authority. Ms. Lawan Oungkiors, Deputy Director General of the Port Authority of Thailand, and Mr. Takashi Yamada, Executive Vice President of the Nagoya Port Authority, signed the Partnership Agreement. This Partnership Agreement with Port Authority of Thailand is the second such agreement, concluded with Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. (SIPG) in November 2011.

World's First Hybrid Car Carrier Emerald Ace Arrives at the Port of Nagoya
On July 1st the world's first hybrid car carrier, the Emerald Ace of MOL, arrived at the Port of Nagoya.
The Emerald Ace is equipped with a hybrid electric power supply system that combines a 160kW solar generation system - jointly developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, Energy Company of the Panasonic Group and MOL - with lithium-ion batteries that can store some 2.2MWh of electricity.
Conventional power generation systems use diesel-powered generators to supply onboard electricity while vessels are berthed.On the Emerald Ace, electricity is generated by the solar power generation system and stored in the lithium-ion batteries while the vessel is under way. When the ship is in berth the diesel-powered generator is completely shut down and the batteries provide all the electricity it needs, resulting in zero emissions at the pier.
The vessel's hybrid system represents a significant step forward in realizing "ISHIN-I", the concept for next-generation car carriers that MOL announced in September 2009. MOL continues to take a proactive stance in technological development with the aim of reducing the environmental burden of its vessels and operations.
The "Solar Hybrid" logo is painted on the sides of the vessel near the stern to identify its hybrid system and its use of renewable energy.

Belgian Ports Executives had courtesy called the Port of Nagoya
On June 13th, Mr. Luc ARNOUTS, Chief Commercial Officer of the Port of Antwerp, and Mr. Joachim COENS, Chairman - Managing Director of the Port of Zeebrugge, made a courtesy call on the Executive Vice President of Nagoya Port Authority.
During the conference, the importance of Japanese industry to the Belgian Economy was discussed and participants exchanged information on current trade trends and other matters.
The Port of Nagoya and Port of Antwerp concluded a friendship port agreement in 1988 and have developed a close relationship through mutual visits, seminars and various events. Both Belgian Port Executives were members of the Belgian Economic Mission headed by HRH Prince Philippe that visited Japan on June 9-16.

3rd Berth of Nabeta Pier Container Terminal Begins Operation
Development of the 3rd berth (T3) at the Nabeta Pier Container Terminal started in September 2009, and the berth began operation on April 1st. The new berth is a quake-resistant high-standard structure with the following specifications. Nagoya United Container Terminal Co., Ltd. (NUCT) is the terminal operator for this terminal.

Cargo handling equipment (quay cranes and RTGs) installed at Nabeta Pier
The opening of the 3rd Berth at Nabeta Pier is set for April, and cargo handling equipment has arrived at Nabeta Pier Container Terminal and is now entering the final stage of preparations before the start of official operation.
Eight RTGs and 2 quay cranes have already been installed at the terminal. The quay cranes have a twin spreader that can lift two 20ft containers at one time.
The RTGs have BUS-BAR electrical power supply and are designed to be environmentally friendly. All equipment is installed by the Nagoya United Container Terminal Co., Ltd. (NUCT), a terminal operator certified in June 2010.

First call of passenger cruise ship the Discovery at the Port of Nagoya
On 16th January, UK cruise ship the Discovery called at the Port of Nagoya. The journey of the Discovery started from Hong Kong and went though Shanghai and Japanese major cities, including Nagoya, and then on to Manila.
During the stop at Nagoya, about 470 cruise passengers, mainly from the UK, enjoyed the stay at Nagoya, joining the optional tours that visited traditional places in Nagoya (Atsuta Shrine, Nagoya Castle and Osu-Kannon) and a technical tour that visited an actual assembly plant of Toyota Motor Corporation, and walking around the Garden Pier of the Port of Nagoya.
At the time of departure, one of the main characters from the "Nagoya Omotenashi Busho-Tai (modern samurai performers)", and Japanese drum team "Ducunto" held the farewell performances for the passengers, and the Discovery embarked for its next port of call, Keelung (Taiwan).
